Jose María Michavila

Founding and managing partner of MdF, he graduated with honours in law in Universidad Complutense de Madrid, where he also graduated in Contemporary History, of which he is a professor. He also obtained a PhD with honours in Banking Law, and has spent periods of time at Harvard University and at the London School of Economics. He is also a member of the “Conseille d’ Etat”, which he joined in 1998 as the top-performer of his class.

José María has acted as a lawyer, from 1984 to 1991, and from 2004 until today. For two years he was Secretary General of the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, the largest in Spain. Since 1993 he has served as a member of the Spanish Parliament and member of the National Executive Committee of the Partido Popular. From 1996 to 2004 was member of the Spanish Government, first as Secretary of State for the Relations with the Parliament (working directly with the President of the Government), then as Secretary of State of Justice, and finally as Minister of Justice.

Born in an entrepreneurial family (Torrecid), he is married and a father of four. He is a member of the Real Academia de Legislación y Jurisprudencia, manages the “Foro Profesional” –an institution that incorporates the 20 best law firms in Spain-, is leader of “Temas de Hoy” –the most distributed legal-economic publication in Spain-, works as counsel lawyer at law firm MA Abogados in Spain, and is secretary of the charitable foundation Alas (www.fundacionalas.org).
